New Physicians Bring Additional Expertise to MHSI’s Team
Daniel K. Fahim, M.D. and Omar Qahwash, D.O. are the latest physicians to join Michigan Head and Spine Institute (MHSI), with specialties in brain, spine tumors and cerebrovascular surgery. Dr. Fahim is a brain and spine tumor expert, specializing in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. Presenting his research findings at the state, national and international level, Dr. Fahim seeks to discover new ways to manage brain and spine tumors. A University of Michigan Medical School graduate, he has returned to the state after training at Baylor College of Medicine and at MD Anderson Cancer Center, both located in Houston, Texas.In addition to his role at MHSI, Dr. Fahim serves as the Director of Neurosurgery at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, and is the Director of the Spine and Tumor Program, as well as the Co-Director of Brain Tumor Program, at Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Dr. Omar Qahwash has returned to MHSI after completing two fellowships in cerebrovascular neurosurgery. He is one of few sub-specialized Neurosurgeons in the state of Michigan with dual fellowships in Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery training under MHSI’s own Dr. Richard Fessler. Dr. Qahwash's research and subspecialty training focuses on the application of intra/peri operative cerebral blood flow measurements and the integration of open and endovascular techniques to treat patients with cerebrovascular pathology.
In addition to his role at MHSI, Dr. Qahwash is Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, Oakland University in the William Beaumont School of Medicine and is the Site Director of Neurosurgical Residency at St. John Hospital - Moross which is part of St. John Providence Health System.
Dr. Qahwash is a graduate of Michigan State University, and completed his residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also fluent in Arabic.
